Arizona is home to two spectacular jack rabbits - the antelope and the black tailed. Jack rabbits are technically hares. Unlike smaller cottontails which are true rabbits, their your are bon furred, with eyes open, and are capable of moving within a few hours after birth.

Long-legged antelope jack rabbits weigh up to ten pounds, have huge ears edged in white, and a patch of white fur on their flanks that can flash on one side or the other as they speedily jig-jag way from predators.

The back-tailed jack rabbit is slightly smaller, up to eight pounds, with ears and top of the tail tipped in black.
